Erectile Dysfunction Herbal Pills

There are many ways to treat erectile dysfunction, and some companies claim their herbal pills are the best. They say that this type of treatment is cheaper than prescription medication, and even more effective. However, there hasn’t been a lot of studies conducted on the effectiveness of herbal supplements in erectile dysfunction cases.

They’re also not always entirely safe. It’s important to always speak to a urologist before taking any herbal supplements. They may interact with other medication you are currently taking, and can even produce side effects. Below are some of the most common herbal remedies used for treating erectile dysfunction.

Panax Ginseng

There are many different types of ginseng used to treat erectile dysfunction. Panax ginseng, which has been used for centuries in Chinese and Korean medicine, is thought to be the most effective.

This herb is not only used to treat erectile dysfunction, but also premature ejaculation. Panax ginseng releases nitric oxide (NO), which works as an antioxidant and therefore, is thought to help with erectile dysfunction.

Maca

Maca is a root vegetable that originates from Peru. Animal trials have shown that maca increased sexual performance in rats, but did not show any effect on erectile dysfunction specifically. Black maca is also thought to reduce stress, a contributing factor to erectile dysfunction. If maca has any effect on erectile dysfunction, it’s likely a placebo effect.

Yohimbine

The yohimbine herb comes from the bark of an evergreen tree in West Africa. For nearly a century, people have thought this herb releases more nitric oxide and widens the blood vessels to the penis, increasing blood flow. However, in one study, 65 percent of participants still saw no change in their condition after taking yohimbine.

Mondia Whitei

Mondia whitei, also known as White’s ginger, comes from the roots of an African plant. It is an herb extremely popular in Uganda, where medication is rarely used. It is thought to be very effective at treating:

  • erectile dysfunction
  • testosterone levels
  • increasing sexual desire

Studies have also shown that this herb is very low in toxicity.

Are Herbal Supplements Effective at Treating Erectile Dysfunction?

Although it’s nice to think that something as simple as an herbal remedy can help treat erectile dysfunction, sadly that is not usually the case. There simply is no proof that any of these herbal pills work when trying to treat the condition. These supplements are also not regulated by the FDA, so there is no way to tell if they are safe. Men suffering from erectile dysfunction should always consult with their doctor before taking any herbal remedies.
